Court TV: Colorado Stepmom Murder Case and Idaho Doomsday Cult Murder Case

Recently, attorney Gabriel Sepulveda-Sanchez appeared on Court TV to discuss two ongoing murder cases where innocent kids lost their lives to their parents. In one of them, Letecia Stauch stands accused of brutally murdering her young stepson and disposing of his body, on the other, Lori Vallow Daybell is facing life in prison if convicted of murdering her two children and conspiring to kill her fifth husband’s previous wife.

Stauch’s insanity plea won’t be easy to prove.

When asked about the defense’s strategy, Gabriel commented that in order to prove she is innocent by reason of insanity, they would need to prove that she truly wasn’t aware of what she was doing and couldn’t tell right from wrong, which based on the testimony of the Medical Examiner and the behavior displayed by Stauch during the hearing, it would not be easy to argue that she is insane.

In the affidavit, police pointed to physical evidence that supports that a violent event occurred in his bedroom, which caused bloodshed, including blood spatter on the walls, and enough blood loss to stain the mattress, soak through the carpet, the carpet pad, and stain the concrete below his bed.

Vallow Daybell’s defense is trying to pin the murder on her now-deceased brother, Alex Cox.

On a much more complicated case tangled in religion, money, and power, one of the expected key witnesses against her, a former friend of hers, said the defendant came to believe her children were zombies inhabited by dark spirits based on Daybell’s teachings.

When ask about his take, Gabriel argued that religious beliefs, regardless of how far-fetched they are, are not a good defense as they don’t excuse the murder of innocent children If you want to know more about this case and how it develops, follow Court TVv and click here to watch the segment where Gabriel goes into greater detail about this case.
